Takiwatanga is a registered charity, based in South Essex, that provides activities for children with autism and support to their families. Woodland Warriors is an outdoor activity company, that helps children of different age groups and from different backgrounds to learn basic life skills through outdoor play. Takiwatanga have joined forces with Tiffany Belford-Fry of Woodland Warriors, to create sessions tailored to the needs of autistic children and those with social anxiety issues. There is no pressure to join in specific activities and there are quiet areas available, should any child need a break from the session.
Age Range: 5-15 years
We request that parents stay at the activities and remain responsible for their child(ren) at all times. We have found in the past that children like their parents with them when they first come along, but as their confidence grows parents can stand back from the activities, chat amongst themselves and make new friends too.
Throughout the sessions, children will be able to participate in a range of activities from balancing, climbing, developing problem solving skills, making crafts, learning about the wildlife and how to safely make fire. No two sessions are the same, with different activities each week.
Where to Find Us
Woodland Warriors takes place at Memorial Park, Rettendon View, Wickford, SS11 8JE. If you park in the carpark at Rettendon View and then follow the path/road into the park itself on foot, alongside the playground. Behind the playground is the building housing Hutton’s Cafe and the toilets. If you walk on the path to the left of this building you will see a wooded area behind the Bowling Club. This is where the Woodland Warriors meet.
