Woodland Warriors is an outdoor activity company, that helps children of different age groups and from different backgrounds to learn basic life skills through outdoor play. Takiwatanga have arranged specific Woodland Warriors sessions, tailored to the needs of children with autism and social anxiety issues. There is no pressure to join in specific activities and there are quiet areas available, should any child need a break from the session.

Sessions last 1.5 hours and cost £6.50 per child. Session times are Tuesdays from 1.30pm to 3pm and 3.45pm to 5.15pm and Saturdays 10am to 11.30am and 11.45am to 1.15pm. You can book via http://www.ticketsource.co.uk/takiwatanga

We request that parents stay on site, within the view of the activities and remain responsible for their children at all times. We have found in the past that children like their parents with them when they first come along, but as their confidence grows, parents can stand back from the activities, chat amongst themselves and make new friends too.

Throughout the sessions, children will be able to participate in a range of activities from balancing, climbing, developing problem solving skills, learning about the wildlife and learning how to safely make fire. No two sessions are the same, with different activities each week.

The sessions are run by Tiffany Belford-Fry or “Tiffers” as the children call her. Tiffers has an amazing natural empathy with the children and it has been lovely to watch the children open up to her and share their special interests, which she often manages to incorporate within the sessions.

The Venue
Woodland Warriors takes place at Memorial Park, Rettendon View, Wickford, SS11 8JE. If you park in the carpark at Rettendon View and then follow the path/road into the park itself, alongside the playground. Behind the playground is the building housing Hutton’s Café and the toilets. If you walk on the path to the left of this building you will see a wooded area behind the Bowling Club. This is where the Woodland Warriors meet.
